Classical Ballet
Classical Ballet is a formalized system of movement involving precise positions of the arms, feet, and body designed to enable the dancer to move with the greatest possible agility, control, speed, lightness, and grace.
Classical-ballet technique is based on the turned-out position of the legs, which increases the range of movement through added mobility in the hip joint and also imparts a more pleasing line to the extended leg.
We offer classes in the RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) syllubus. The RAD is a UK-based examination board specializing in dance education and training in classical ballet. The association was established in 1920 and is currently one of the worlds most influential dance organizations.
We also offer weekly Open ballet and pointe classes to provide a well rounded and high standard of classical ballet training.
LYRICAL
Lyrical Dance is based on a classical ballet aesthetic with choreography including ballet steps with similar poise, grace, fluidity and breadth in dynamics. Lyrical does however allow for more freedom than ballet, steps may go to the floor and line of arms and leg positions can be turned in and unsymmetrical with more room to more freely.
Lyrical dance is a favourite for most students being the most expressive dance style with movements reflecting the lyrics of the music!
ACRO
Acro is a class for everyone! It combines dance and acrobatics. Students do some strength work then progressions down the room on a matt which may involve, rolls, handstands, cartweels, side aierials and progress through and learn other ‘tricks’.
Acro steps have more of a ‘dance’ aesthetic than gymnastics.
CONTEMPORARY
Contemporary Dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through dance movements exploring and concepts.
From a technical perspective contemporary dance in schools combines the technical and controlled leg work and line of classical ballet and jazz whilst employing contract-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation characteristics of modern dance.
Contemporary dance can generally be any way of movement to portray and communicate a concept to the audience. Some styles may have a strong focus on floor work, whilst other can be more reflective of more formal movement seen in classical ballet.
